Data Licensing
How we offer The Grid’s data
The Grid offers our data through two primary models:
As a public good by licensing our open core of data under the Open Database License v1.0 (ODbL) at https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/ (this model is in development); OR
As a service under a commercial license, which is either as set out in the TGDS - Data-as-a-Service Terms or under your signed agreement with The Grid.
Open Core / ODbL licensed data (in development)
Data provided under the ODbL is licensed to you solely under the terms of the ODbL, including Section 7 of the ODbL (which includes the disclaimer). Once we’ve launched our ODbL licensed service, you can see our dedicated page about the ODbL for more information.
Commercially licensed data (live)
This is the license model used for all data services that are not provided under the ODbL. This is a specific license agreement with The Grid over the data provided and our data services. Commercial licenses may or may not have a fee, depending on your usecase.
Commercially licensed data can be either as set out in the TGDS - Data-as-a-Service Terms or under your signed agreement with The Grid. Please see the relevant agreement for the details about how we license the data to you and the terms and conditions for its use.
Disclaimers
Understanding the scope of The Grid’s Data and what it means (or doesn’t mean)
Use of the products or services of any particular project that is referenced in The Grid’s data is at your own risk.
Not advice
The Grid does not provide investment, legal, or tax advice.
The Grid is not accountable for any decisions you may make on the purchasing or selling of financial instruments (including cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, security tokens, governance tokens, or any other DLT or blockchain-related financial instrument).
The Grid does not provide any advice (financial or otherwise) as to whether using a particular project’s technology (or trading its token) is a Good Idea or a Bad Idea.
Scope of coverage
A project’s presence (or lack of presence) in The Grid’s Data does not imply any sponsorship or endorsement by The Grid.
Rugpulls, scams, and other issues. Because The Grid is a neutral provider of ecosystem metadata, we may map projects that are (or later revealed to be) a rugpull or a scam, or may have other legal challenges such as for not being in compliance with various laws (such as securities laws, financial regulations, export control, or AML). We continue to maintain information about these profiles as part of our historical record of the ecosystem and to accurately map the entire ecosystem. Please see the disclaimers above and exercise caution if deciding to use any blockchain project contained in The Grid’s data. If you need a mental model for the above, consider the Internet Archive.
In the future, we may provide further data, and label suspected, reported, or known projects with a risk of being a scam or other issue. If you are interested in this feature, please get in touch.
Claimed profiles
A project having claimed their profile in The Grid’s Data does not imply any sponsorship or endorsement by The Grid.
Data or links within a particular profile
Profile data. Within a profile in The Grid’s data, links to a profile’s webpage, socials, or other materials is not sponsorship, endorsement, or a statement of the truthfulness or accuracy of the content that the project may publish itself on its own channels. The Grid is not responsible for content that the projects produce and distribute themselves.
What happens once The Grid’s data goes into my system?
The Grid is not responsible for data management once it goes into your system. We are of course responsible for our APIs and if you have questions about this, please see docs.thegrid.id
If you are a customer, then see the agreements you have with The Grid. In general, any changes you may make to The Grid’s data once you have it in your internal systems are your responsibility and not The Grid’s responsibility.
If you are using data licensed under the ODbL, then you should review our docs.thegrid.id pages and the “Share Alike” terms in the ODbL (which are copyleft / reciprocal licensing terms). You have obligations on your use of ODbL licensed data and how you use it in your systems.
If you would like to know more about our policies on covering ecosystems, see our Ecosystem Coverage Policy.
If you want to know more about our data or our endpoint, please see our Documentation.
