# Degen Chain > Turning content into currency Degen Chain is a Layer 3 blockchain built around the DEGEN token, which is a community tipping token that allows Farcaster users to "tip" other users for posting engaging content. Degen Chain is one of the first L3s built specifically for a community and its token, enabling new experiments with tipping, community rewards, payments, gaming, and much more. $DEGEN is also the native gas token of the chain. - Type: Network - Sector: Blockchain Platforms - Status: Active - Founded: 2024-02-01 - Profile: https://thegrid.id/profiles/Degen_Chain ## Products - [Degen Chain Bridge](https://thegrid.id/profiles/Degen_Chain): Bridge ETH, $DEGEN or any other tokens to native $DEGEN on the Degen chain. (Decentralised Exchange, Live) - [Degen Chain](https://thegrid.id/profiles/Degen_Chain): Degen Chain is a Layer 3 blockchain built with Arbitrum Orbit, Base for settlement, and AnyTrust for data availability. (L3, Live, Main Product) - [Degen App](https://thegrid.id/profiles/Degen_Chain): Degen App is a social platform built on Farcaster where users share content, discuss ideas, and earn DEGEN token tips in community channels with permanent, uncensored posts. (Social Platform, Early access) ## Assets - [Degen (DEGEN)](https://thegrid.id/profiles/Degen_Chain): DEGEN is the native token of Degen Chain, a Layer 3 blockchain built on Arbitrum Orbit that settles to Base. It is used to pay transaction fees on the network and for tipping content creators on Farcaster-based social platforms. Originally launched as a community tipping token on Farcaster, it evolved into the gas token for its own dedicated blockchain, enabling the community to experiment with social rewards, payments, and gaming within their ecosystem. Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Attribution is required: include "Powered by The Grid" linking to https://thegrid.id wherever the data is used. Derivative databases must be shared under ODbL terms. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL. For ML/AI use: training datasets that substantially extract ODbL data are Derivative Databases and must be shared under ODbL if publicly used; models must be attributed in documentation. Model 2 - commercial licenses. The Grid Data Service (TGDS) is also available as a commercial license.
