# Across Protocol > Interoperability powered by intents Across is a crosschain bridging protocol. It lets users and developers transfer assets between blockchains using an intent-based architecture for fast, low-cost transactions. Across is a crosschain bridging protocol that moves assets and data between blockchain networks. It uses an intent-based architecture in which users express a desired outcome and a competitive network of relayers fulfills the transfer, drawing on pooled liquidity rather than isolated per-chain reserves. The protocol is aimed at both everyday users bridging tokens and developers who want to embed crosschain functionality into their own applications. The protocol addresses fragmentation across blockchain ecosystems, where liquidity and applications are split across many networks. Transfers are verified through an optimistic verification process, and relayers front capital to fulfill user intents quickly before that verification finalizes onchain. This design allows transfers to settle in seconds rather than requiring users to wait for full crosschain confirmation. Across offers a user-facing bridging interface as well as developer tooling that lets other applications embed native crosschain flows such as bridging combined with swapping or staking. The protocol delivers fills in about two seconds on supported chains and combines bridging with embedded crosschain actions, allowing a swap, transfer, and destination-chain contract call to be composed into a single transaction. It also uses a modular settlement layer that lets other exchanges and applications route intent-based orders through the same relayer network for crosschain execution. Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL.
