# Ambient Finance > Zero-to-one decentralized trading protocol Ambient Finance is a decentralized trading protocol, formerly known as CrocSwap. It lets users swap tokens and provide liquidity through a single smart contract combining concentrated, ambient, and knockout liquidity. Ambient Finance is a decentralized trading protocol that lets users swap tokens and provide liquidity without a centralized intermediary. Formerly known as CrocSwap, it was built to reduce the gas costs and fragmented liquidity common to earlier automated market maker designs. Its target users include individual traders, liquidity providers, and market makers seeking efficient onchain execution. The protocol runs its entire exchange logic inside a single smart contract, where individual liquidity pools exist as lightweight data structures rather than separate contracts. This architecture lowers gas costs for swaps and pool creation and allows a pool to combine concentrated, ambient, and knockout liquidity within the same liquidity curve. Fees earned by concentrated liquidity positions are automatically reinvested as ambient liquidity, and the protocol also supports gasless transactions through an off-chain signing standard. Ambient offers spot swaps, range and limit order style positions, and pool creation tools, along with permissioned pool functionality that lets governance be delegated to external oracles. It is used by traders seeking lower fees and by liquidity providers and market makers looking for flexible, capital-efficient positions across a range of supported assets on Ethereum and other networks. The protocol continues to operate on mainnet following its initial rollout. - Type: Company - Sector: DeFi - Status: Active - Founded: 2021-01-01 - Profile: https://thegrid.id/profiles/ambient_finance ## Products - [Ambient DEX](https://thegrid.id/profiles/ambient_finance): Ambient DEX is a decentralized exchange that runs entirely inside a single smart contract to enable token swaps, range orders, and limit orders. It combines concentrated and ambient liquidity mechanisms in shared pools, allowing liquidity providers to specify price ranges where their capital is active while keeping open, unbounded liquidity available for trading. The system supports automated fee reinvestment, surplus collateral accounts, and gasless transactions for a lower-cost trading experience. Vault products built by partner protocols on top of Ambient liquidity pools offer simplified strategic liquidity management for depositors. (Decentralised Exchange, Live, Main Product) - [Ambient Perps](https://thegrid.id/profiles/ambient_finance): Ambient Perps is a decentralized perpetual futures exchange that lets traders open leveraged long and short positions on crypto assets settled onchain. The platform combines onchain derivatives mechanics with an execution experience aimed at matching centralized exchanges, including a dedicated trading interface and portfolio view. It operates on a high-throughput Layer 1 blockchain built for trading applications, enabling fast order execution and settlement. Users access the exchange directly from self-custody wallets without depositing funds into a centralized intermediary.
