It operates as a fundraising operating system rather than a public launchpad, pairing curated deal flow with legal and compliance tooling. The platform targets early-stage founders running private rounds and investors seeking vetted, structured access to those deals.

Deals on the platform are brought in by vetted curators who review teams, terms, and due diligence packages before a room opens to investors. Founders control access to their deal room, approving warm introductions and gating material access after review, while the platform does not take custody of investor funds. Reputation signals combining social and onchain wallet activity are used to help founders evaluate potential investors beyond the size of their check.

The product suite includes investor pipeline tools that scan a founder's network, tools for collecting registered interest ahead of a raise, and automated generation of SAFE, SAFT, and SAFE-T style agreements paired with know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering checks. Deal structures can include a rollup special purpose vehicle for a cleaner cap table, alongside a non-custodial multi-signature treasury and ownership NFTs carrying onchain voting rights. This data is provided under two licensing models.

Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Attribution is required: include "Powered by The Grid" linking to https://thegrid.id wherever the data is used. Derivative databases must be shared under ODbL terms. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL. For ML/AI use: training datasets that substantially extract ODbL data are Derivative Databases and must be shared under ODbL if publicly used; models must be attributed in documentation.

Model 2 - commercial licenses. The Grid Data Service (TGDS) is also available as a commercial license. See [Web Services Terms](https://about.thegrid.id/legal/web-services-terms) for commercial use that is not covered by the open data service.
