# Nillion > Home of Encrypted Markets Nillion is a privacy computation network for encrypted data and sealed onchain instructions. It lets developers store and compute on sensitive data without exposing it, and lets users seal instructions that open once a condition is met. Nillion is a privacy computation network that stores and processes sensitive data while it stays encrypted. It offers private storage, confidential compute, and private AI inference through decentralized nodes, alongside a system for sealing onchain instructions that stay unreadable until a set condition is met. It serves developers building applications that handle private data and traders or agents that need their strategies hidden from the market. The network combines secret sharing, which splits data across several storage nodes so no single operator can read it, with trusted execution environments that run workloads under cryptographic attestation. Its Ethereum Layer 2 inherits security from Ethereum and coordinates staking, rewards, and verification. Community node operators stake NIL to check that confidential workloads run as attested and earn rewards for that work. Its offerings include the Nillion L2, the Blind Computer suite for private storage, compute, and AI, and the Blacklight verification network, with a bridge linking the L2 to Ethereum. Nillion is used by developers, node operators, and applications that need private data handling. Node operations are moving from the L2 to a new network on Ethereum mainnet. - Type: Network - Sector: Privacy & Confidentiality - Status: Active - Founded: 2025-03-24 - Profile: https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion ## Products - [Nillion Blacklight](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Nillion Blacklight is a decentralized verification network that continuously checks workloads running inside trusted execution environments. TEE operators submit heartbeat proofs, and Blacklight nodes selected by Nillion's Ethereum Layer 2 challenge and verify attestation reports to confirm each workload's integrity. Node operators stake NIL on the L2 to receive verification assignments and earn rewards, with more stake bringing more assigned tasks. (Compute Network, Live, Main Product) - [Nillion Bridge](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Nillion Bridge is a bridge interface for moving ETH and NIL between Ethereum mainnet and the Nillion L2. Users connect a wallet, choose the source and destination network, and confirm a transfer that makes the assets available on the other chain. It is the official route for funding Blacklight node operations on the L2 and for returning NIL to Ethereum, with withdrawals to Ethereum taking several days to finalize. (Bridge, Live, Main Product) - [nilChain](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): nilChain was a proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain that served as the original coordination chain of the Nillion network, with NIL as its native token. Validators secured the chain while NIL holders staked with them to earn rewards and moved tokens to other networks over an interchain bridge. The chain has been halted, and remaining balances can be claimed as the Ethereum version of NIL. (L1, Discontinued, Main Product) - [Nillion L2](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Nillion L2 is an Ethereum Layer 2 network that coordinates staking, rewards, and verification for the Nillion network. It is an optimistic rollup that processes transactions off-chain and settles them on Ethereum, assigning verification work to Blacklight nodes and handling their staking and reward distribution. The network is being retired as verification work moves onto the separate Blacklight L1 network. (L2, Live, Main Product) - [Blind Computer](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Blind Computer is a privacy computing platform that lets developers store and process sensitive data without exposing it to application backends or node operators. Its storage module encrypts records and splits them into secret shares across several nodes, so no single node can read the original data. Its compute module runs containerized applications inside trusted execution environments with cryptographic attestation, and its AI module runs large language models in the same environments for private inference. Developers reach all three through APIs and one developer portal that manages accounts, usage, and API keys. (Privacy Tools, Live, Main Product) - [Blacklight L1](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Blacklight L1 is a conditional encryption network that keeps a sealed payload unreadable until a specified onchain condition is met. Authors split the payload into encrypted key shares held by a committee of staked nodes, and each node publishes its share once the condition is observed, allowing anyone to reconstruct and verify the payload onchain. It is a network distinct from Nillion's Blacklight verification layer, sharing only its name and token, and will eventually replace that layer's Ethereum L2. It is currently deployed on Ethereum Sepolia testnet, with mainnet planned. (Privacy Tools, Open Beta, Main Product) - [Blacklight Managed Nodes](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): Blacklight Managed Nodes is a managed staking service that lets NIL holders earn Nillion Blacklight rewards without running their own node. Users bridge NIL and ETH to the Nillion L2 and stake it, while the service sets up, monitors, and maintains the node and pays its gas fees. A flat service fee is deducted from rewards, with a lower rate for users who restake rather than withdraw. (Staking & Validation Services, Live, Main Product) ## Assets - [Nillion (NIL)](https://thegrid.id/profiles/nillion): NIL is the utility token of the Nillion network. It is used for staking on node operations, earning verification rewards, and accessing the network's private storage and computation services. The token moved from the discontinued nilChain to Ethereum as an ERC-20 at a one-to-one ratio, allowing staking and node rewards to be coordinated on Ethereum.
