# TAO Private Network > Decentralized Privacy Infrastructure Tao Private Network lets users access the internet privately through a global decentralized VPN powered by Bittensor. Tao Private Network is a decentralized VPN infrastructure protocol operating as Bittensor Subnet 65. The protocol coordinates workers, mining pools, and validators to provide encrypted internet access via WireGuard and SOCKS5 configurations. Exit nodes sourced from residential and independent ISPs across diverse geographic regions make connections resistant to detection and blocking. Developers can build VPN applications on the TPN protocol stack, with official consumer apps available for Mac and Android. - Type: Project - Sector: Privacy & Confidentiality - Status: Active - Founded: 2025-04-01 - Profile: https://thegrid.id/profiles/tao_private_network ## Products - [TAO Private Network](https://thegrid.id/profiles/tao_private_network): TAO Private Network is a decentralized VPN protocol operating as Bittensor Subnet 65, providing programmatic access to residential WireGuard configurations and SOCKS5 proxies through a global network of incentivized node operators. The system distributes subnet alpha token emissions to bandwidth providers based on worker pool size and geographic diversity, enabling applications to route traffic through constantly refreshing residential and small-ISP exit points across multiple countries. (VPN, Live, Main Product) ## Assets - [TAO Private Network (SN65)](https://thegrid.id/profiles/tao_private_network): SN65 is the subnet alpha token for TPN (TAO Private Network) on Bittensor Subnet 65. It is used to reward bandwidth providers who operate VPN nodes and validators who score connection quality across the network. TPN incentivizes node operators in hard-to-reach regions, enabling censorship-resistant VPN coverage in locations that traditional providers cannot serve. Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Attribution is required: include "Powered by The Grid" linking to https://thegrid.id wherever the data is used. Derivative databases must be shared under ODbL terms. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL. For ML/AI use: training datasets that substantially extract ODbL data are Derivative Databases and must be shared under ODbL if publicly used; models must be attributed in documentation. Model 2 - commercial licenses. The Grid Data Service (TGDS) is also available as a commercial license. See [Web Services Terms](https://about.thegrid.id/legal/web-services-terms) for commercial use that is not covered by the open data service.
