# XRPL EVM Sidechain > Scalability & Compatibility for EVM with XRP XRPL EVM Sidechain lets users deploy EVM smart contracts on the XRP Ledger ecosystem with fast, low-cost transactions. XRPL EVM Sidechain helps developers run Ethereum-compatible smart contracts within the XRP Ledger ecosystem. It uses XRP for gas and connects via the Axelar bridge, offering low fees and fast block times. Built with the Cosmos SDK and secured by CometBFT, it supports common Ethereum tools and libraries for familiar development workflows. - Type: Project - Sector: Blockchain Platforms - Status: Active - Founded: 2025-06-30 - Profile: https://thegrid.id/profiles/xrpl_evm_sidechain ## Products - [XRPL EVM Sidechain](https://thegrid.id/profiles/xrpl_evm_sidechain): XRPL EVM Sidechain is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK and CometBFT, enabling Solidity applications within the XRP Ledger ecosystem. It uses XRP for gas, connects to XRPL and other chains via Axelar and IBC, and delivers low fees with fast finality. Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Attribution is required: include "Powered by The Grid" linking to https://thegrid.id wherever the data is used. Derivative databases must be shared under ODbL terms. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL. For ML/AI use: training datasets that substantially extract ODbL data are Derivative Databases and must be shared under ODbL if publicly used; models must be attributed in documentation. Model 2 - commercial licenses. The Grid Data Service (TGDS) is also available as a commercial license. See [Web Services Terms](https://about.thegrid.id/legal/web-services-terms) for commercial use that is not covered by the open data service.
