Yodl is a decentralized payment protocol that lets travelers pay with stablecoins at local merchants. Users scan everyday local QR codes and pay from a self-custody wallet while merchants receive local currency.

Yodl is a decentralized payment protocol and non-custodial wallet that lets travelers spend stablecoins at everyday local merchants. Rather than operating as a financial institution, it provides the underlying technology that connects crypto wallets to existing local QR payment networks, with licensed local payment service providers handling the conversion and payout to merchants.

The core problem it addresses is the friction travelers face exchanging cash or using foreign cards abroad. Users scan a local QR code with the Yodl app or an integrated wallet, pay directly from self-custodied stablecoin balances, and the transaction settles instantly while the merchant receives their local currency rather than crypto. Funds remain in the user's control until the moment of payment, and a developer SDK lets other wallets and applications integrate the same QR payment flow.

Yodl is used by travelers and digital nomads spending stablecoins day to day, as well as wallet and application developers who embed its payment flow through the SDK. The service is available across several countries, connecting to their respective local QR payment rails, with additional markets in preparation.

## Legal

This data is provided under two licensing models.

Model 1 - open data. The open data core is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) — a copyleft/share-alike license allowing free use, modification, and sharing for any purpose. Attribution is required: include "Powered by The Grid" linking to https://thegrid.id wherever the data is used. Derivative databases must be shared under ODbL terms. Trademarks, logos, and brand names (marked "Special TPIP") are not covered by the ODbL. For ML/AI use: training datasets that substantially extract ODbL data are Derivative Databases and must be shared under ODbL if publicly used; models must be attributed in documentation.

Model 2 - commercial licenses. The Grid Data Service (TGDS) is also available as a commercial license. See [Web Services Terms](https://about.thegrid.id/legal/web-services-terms) for commercial use that is not covered by the open data service.
