Use of our data services via the web

If you use our data or data services via the web - including materials produced with our data, such as marketmaps or our explorer pages -  then the TGDS - Data-as-a-Service Terms and the terms and links set out on this page (which is an “Order”) apply. This page describes the relevant TGDS Plan.

These terms apply for:

  • The reference Explorer pages, such as https://explorer.thegrid.id (more below).

  • Marketmaps that we create with The Grid’s data

  • Use of any open (as in publicly available, without an API key) endpoint we may offer

  • Using our data and data services via an online sign up flow,

  • Any other data or data services we make publicly available, or that specifically reference this page.

Relevant Terms

The following terms apply to your use of our data or data services (including TGDS, The Grid Data Service):

TGDS - Data-as-a-Service Terms: http://thegrid.id/legal/tgds-terms

TGDS - Acceptable Use Policy: https://thegrid.id/legal/tgds-aup

Term:

  • Starts from when you start to access or use our data or data services

  • Continues month-to-month, on the calendar month (Gregorian).

  • The Grid can terminate on 30 days notice, if you have provided contact data (see below). If you haven’t provided us with contact data, then The Grid can terminate this service at any time (i.e., we can’t give you notice if we don’t know who you are!). This notice period (even if you provided contact data) does not apply to our move to having API keys in the future (see below), as this is a change in how the service is delivered, and not a cancellation of the service.

  • You can stop using the data or data services at any time, but these terms continue to apply to your past use, and apply to any data you’ve imported from our service into your systems.

Attribution Requirements

You are required to attribute The Grid via name and link to The Grid wherever you use our data.

  • Public facing webpages. Include attribution (via name & link) to The Grid on public-facing webpages alongside where TGDS data is used.

  • Example: “Powered by thegrid.id

  • Data Services. Data services you provide to third parties that include data from TGDS must have appropriate attribution (via name & link) to The Grid.

  • Copies of our Explorer (open source) code that use TGDS and are hosted by you must include reference to The Grid and our footers on every page of the explorer site.

If you want to remove attribution, then this requires a paid plan, and so please contact us.

Prohibited Activities

  • Reselling The Grid’s data to third parties is prohibited. You cannot under this plan, for example, take in our data, add it to your data, then sell data services to third parties that include our data. If you would like to do this, please contact us.

  • Reverse engineering of The Grid’s data is prohibited under Section 6(viii) of TGDS - Data-as-a-Service Terms, which for clarity includes reverse engineering based on our marketmaps or explorer pages.

Support

  • There is no support or uptime commitments by The Grid on this plan. You may still contact our support team and we will try to help you if we can, because we like to help our users, but we don’t make any commitments on a support offering to you. Contacting support is available via https://enter.thegrid.id/support

Additional policies

What you should do

At the moment, as long as you follow the terms here, you can incorporate our data into your site.

It will be better for you, and will help support us to build a world class set of ecosystem metadata, if you let us know you’ve integrated the data. You can do that here or in our TG group here.

If you ping us to let us know, then:

  • when we make changes to our endpoint, including at some point introducing API keys (see below), then we can let you know so that you can have continuity in service

  • we love feedback, and we can see if we can better support your usecase

  • we can keep you informed about product changes if you sign up to our occasional email list.

Disclaimer for Marketmaps and The Grid’s Explorer pages

Data Licensing & Disclaimers: https://thegrid.id/legal/data-licensing-and-disclaimers

In addition to the above disclaimers, the following also applies.

The Grid provides marketmaps based on our dataset and other related materials, as well as makes available various sites using our Explorer so that users can better understand the data that we collect.

If you are using one of our marketmaps or Explorer sites, then please note:

The data in the marketmaps and Explorer sites are provided AS IS.

You assume the entire risk of using this data, and the data is provided AS IS. The data is provided “as is” and The Grid (or the the originating source for the data, if not The Grid) is not liable for any damages, including, without limitation, damages resulting from lost data or lost profits or revenue, the costs of data recovery, the costs of substitute data, claims by third parties or for other similar costs, or any special, incidental, or consequential damages, arising out of the use of the data.

The accuracy or reliability of the data on these pages are not guaranteed or warranted in any way and The Grid disclaims liability of any kind whatsoever, including, without limitation, liability for quality, performance, merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose arising out of the use, or inability to use the data.

Any logos or other third party materials may be present as part of our position on Trademark Fair Use as further set out in our Third-Party Trademark Policy.

API endpoint (and keys)

Currently the endpoint for TGDS is open (without an API key). As TGDS develops, we may require that you start using an API key. If we require API keys, we will give you advance notice and help as needed to make the switch to using the API key. Switching to an API key may require you to sign an agreement with The Grid for a specific plan, or switch over to our open data plan (when available) with its own signup flow.

Marketmaps

The Grid routinely releases marketmaps of our data to help visualise what is happening in various ecosystems and sectors.

  • The design of each marketmap is copyright of The Grid in the year of production of the marketmap.

  • Logos and trademarks of the projects in the marketmap are there as part of our Third-Party Trademark Policy.

  • The Grid’s logo and wordmarks are property of The Grid.

Exceptions to these terms

The only exception are if you’ve either: (a) used a service specifically identified as being covered under the ODbL (see Data Licensing & Disclaimers); or (b) have a separate order with The Grid. In those cases those terms apply.

Explorers covered under these terms

This is a non-exhaustive list of our subdomains that offer views of The Grid’s data using our open source Explorer as a reference implementation, and the data used there is covered under this page:

... and any other explorer sites we have released or release in the future.
